Demand for pharmaceutical packaging in the U.S. is forecast to increase 5.3 percent annually through 2014 as manufacturers seek to adjust to evolving regulations and standards.

PACK EXPO International 2012 (October 28-31; McCormick Place, Chicago, IL) will give brand owners access to a number of resources to ease the search for technologies that can help achieve compliance as well as discover advances in other areas driving the industry, including automation, serialization and traceability.

Attendees can begin searching in the already sold-out Pharmaceutical Pavilion, located in the South Hall of McCormick Place. Occupying more than 70,000 net square feet, the pavilion will feature the latest advances in cartoning and labeling, filling and inspection systems as well as blister packaging, flexible pouches, tubes and closures. Additional examples of these technologies will be located throughout the exhibit halls.

PACK EXPO International will also provide pharmaceutical and medical device industry professionals with networking and education resources. The Rx Lounge, located in the Pharmaceutical Pavilion, will allow attendees to exchange ideas with industry peers and engage in further dialogue with suppliers. The lounge will also include an "Ask the Expert" feature, where attendees can seek advice from experienced staffers about specific packaging- and processing-related challenges.

On the education side, both Innovation Stage and Conference at PACK EXPO programming will have sessions focusing on a variety of topics of critical importance to the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. Details about this programming will be announced in the coming weeks.

"The Pharmaceutical Pavilion and Rx Lounge debuted to great success last year at PACK EXPO in Las Vegas, so there was no question it would be coming to Chicago this year for the first time," says Charles D. Yuska, president and CEO of PMMI, the owner and producer of PACK EXPO. "Attendees clearly appreciate having dedicated resources that focus on technologies and issues related to their industry, as do exhibitors. Our main priority is to make it as easy as possible for buyers and sellers to connect and do business, and our industry focused approach is a core part of that strategy."

The Pharmaceutical Pavilion and Rx Lounge are among several industry-specific areas that will be featured at PACK EXPO International 2012. Confectionery manufacturers will have access to The Confectionery Pavilion, sponsored by the National Confectioners Association, and The Candy Bar Lounge. Also joining the lineup is The Baking-Snack Break lounge, sponsored by the Snack Food Association, and the new Beverage Cooler Lounge, sponsored by the International Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT).
