President Clinton to address NRF Annual Convention and EXPO
The National Retail Federation has invited former president Bill Clinton to deliver the keynote address of its 101st Annual Convention and Expo on Monday, Jan. 16; the title of the presentation is "Embracing our Common Humanity." The NRF Convention and Expo is scheduled Jan. 15-18 in New York City. The NRF represents a wide range of retail businesses, including chain restaurants, stores and other establishments.

SuperCorrExpo 2012 books more than 100K sq. ft.
The 2012 TAPPI/AICC SuperCorrExpo, an event dedicated to global corrugated technology, has sold more than 100,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space to 168 exhibitors with more than nine months to go until the event. The 2012 SuperCorrExpo is scheduled in the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta from Oct. 1-4, 2012. "The early bookings show that corrugated suppliers understand the importance of attending SuperCorrExpo'" says Larry N. Montague, TAPPI President and CEO. "The show provides a setting unlike any other in the corrugated industry, providing suppliers, manufacturers and industry leaders the unique opportunity to gather, view demonstrations of equipment and close important deals in one setting." Show organizers report less than 30,000 square feet of exhibition space remains available for the event.

 

Peninsula Packaging expands agricultural thermoforming division
Peninsula Packaging, a provider of thermoformed plastic packaging products for the fresh produce and bakery industries, has acquired the agricultural thermoforming division of Packaging Plus, previously held by Berkley Operations. With the transation, Peninsula now owns thermoforming plants in Hollister, CA, and Yakima, WA, in addition to its previous thermoforming operations are in Exeter, CA, and Wilson, NC.

MeadWestvaco showcases packaging at Consumer Electronics Show
MeadWestvaco Corp., a global leader in packaging and packaging solutions, will demonstrate a line of packaging solutions for the consumer electronics industry at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show, taking place in Las Vegas, Jan. 10-13. Among the products being shown in its interactive booth: Natralock, the company's secure, customizable and sustainable alternative traditional plastic clamshell packaging; according to the company, the paperboard-based solution promotes product security without sacrificing product visibility. MWV also will show paperboard and packaging solutions packaging for consumer electronics, computer accessories and electronic consumables.

 

AkzoNobel purchases shares in Italian coatings firm
AkzoNobel plans to purchase the right to buy the remaining shares of Metlac, an Italian-based packaging coatings producer. AkzoNobel currently holds shares in the Packaging Coatings Metlac Group, inherited from the acquisition of ICI in 2008. According to company representatives, the deal underlines the company's commitment to supporting the coatings and inks market for metal packaging, and expands the firm's global footprint.

 

CI Capital Partners acquires IntraPac
Private investment firm CI Capital Partners has acquired the operations of The IntraPac Group, a specialty plastic packaging company providing solutions to the personal care and pharmaceutical markets. IntraPac's product offerings includes personal care and amenity bottles, single- and double-walled jars, injection molded caps and closures, laminate tubes, tin tubes, deodorant stick canisters, and other specialty rigid plastic packaging products.

 

Vision in Print Joins PrintCity Alliance Lean & Green drupa initiative
Vision in Print, an organization focused on helping print and packaging firms increase profits and competitiveness, is contributing its Lean Process Improvement Expertise to the PrintCity Alliance for their drupa 2012 Lean and Green visitor attraction and project on May 10, 2012. Visitors to drupa will find a special information area for Lean and Green Opportunities at PrintCity, with a focus on improving economic and environmental performance. The specialized area will be staffed by environmental, sustainability and business efficiency experts from various international organisations, to answer questions and offer advice.
