Steve's Real Food boasts a recipe of all-natural, human-grade ingredients free from hormones and antibiotics, positioning the line as a leader in ultra-premium dog foods. Just as strong as the company's focus on quality, is its dedication to sustainability. The firm's Aumsville, OR, manufacturing plant runs on hydroelectric power, and the use of locally sourced meats reduces the impact on the environment by cutting the fuel required to transport resources.

Those exacting sustainability standards extend to the product packaging. When choosing a partner, the company sought out a packaging design that could meet its eco-friendly goals.

"I really wanted a solution that was green, not just one that sounded green," says Nicole Lindsley, project manager at Steve's Real Food. The company opted for NVIRO Flexible Packaging from Eagle Flexible Packaging Inc.

The packaging consists of renewable materials such as corn and plant starches, which enables the pouch to be composted in a municipal disposal environment. The design also incorporates a Zip-Pak Press-to-Close closure, made from the same compostable material as the pouch film; the feature keeps the product inside fresh and ensures it can be composted once the pouch is empty.

The packaging design's high degree of sustainability enables Steve's Real Food to take a leadership position with its packaging, just as it does with the food that goes in it.
