FTC offers webinar on 'Green Guides' tomorrow
January 30, 2014
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will conduct a free Webcast on the updated Green Guidelines at 11 a.m Eastern on Thursday, March 17.
The 30 minute presentation by James Kohm, associate director for the Enforcement Division of the FTC, will cover a brief history of the Green Guides, its recent revisions and what these changes mean to packagers. Kohm will be able to answer attendees' questions following the presentation.
The FTC issued its Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims, commonly known as the Green Guides, to help marketers avoid making environmental claims that are unfair or deceptive under Section 5 of the FTC Act. The Green Guides outline general principles that apply to all environmental marketing claims and then provide guidance on specific green claims, such as biodegradable, compostable, recyclable, recycled content, and ozone safe.
Kohm is the associate director for the Enforcement Division of the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection. In that capacity, he oversees enforcement of all consumer protection orders, the Commission's Green Marketing program, Hispanic Initiative, Bankruptcy program, Criminal Liaison Unit, and a myriad of FTC Rules and Guides.
