Global PET

Global PETʼs closed-loop, all-in-house recycling process creates new products from discarded ones. Ocean and landfill waste is reduced – petroleum is preserved.

In 1986, equipped with degrees in Business Management and Economics from the University of Florida, Nadim Bahou moved to California to join reverse-vending specialists, Envipco. He rose through the ranks to become Senior Vice President of Operations of their west coast venture.

In 1996, fully rooted in recycling, Bahou left Envipco to undertake his own business enterprise which he named Global PET. Initially, the company’s focus was grinding post-consumer PET soda and water bottles to be sold to processors. Global’s profitability led to growth and ultimately expansion into in-house washing of it’s ground flake (2005).

Washing became the heart of the business, as sanitary transformation of the discarded bottles is what makes re-use on the market possible. Global earned a Letter of Non-Objection from the FDA for its washed bottle flake to be in direct contact with food. It’s success can be accredited to competencies in PET washing – giving way to further process integration of PET sheet extrusion (2007).

Global PET closed the recycling loop in 2009 by aquiring thermoforming units to form its PET sheets into food containers. This move gave the company the unique capability to start with a bale of post-consumer PET soda and water bottles and end with a manufactured product ready to be filled with fresh produce.

Global PET employs nearly 200 Californians where it operates out of its two neighboring facilities in Perris. The company has earned its place in recycling history by being one of the first and existing few companies in the nation with the capabilities to go from used bottle to new product without the use of added petroleum.
