Registration open for Sustainability in Packaging 2012

Eastman Renewable Materials acquires TetraVitae Bioscience
Eastman Renewable Materials as purchased the assets of Chicago-based TetraVitae Bioscience in a move intended to broaden its range of sustainable product offerings. Among the notable technologies offered by the acquired firm is patented bio-catalysis technology, and development of renewable chemicals, including bio-based butanol and acetone.

 

Sealed Air to reorganize into three business units
Sealed Air Corp., the packaging firm best known for Bubble Wrap, is reorganizing its business on the heels of its recent $4.3 billion acquisition Diversey Holdings Inc., a cleaning and hygiene company. Sealed Air is expected to establish three business units in 2012: food and beverage, institutional and laundry, and protective packaging. According to the company, food and beverage will focus on food science and microbiology, accounting for a projected 45 percent of company revenue. The institutional and laundry unit will consist of Diversey's building care, laundry and infection-control solutions for business and health care users, comprising about 30 percent of revenue. Finally, the protective packaging division will combine Sealed Air's legacy packaging and specialty materials business and represent about 20 percent of revenue.

 

 

AIA releases Camera Link HS draft standard
The Automated Imaging Association (AIA) has released the Camera Link HS draft standard (version 1.0). After a period of review by a committee of industry experts, the standard will be finalized and released to the public in 2012. Camera Link HS is a new high-speed camera communications protocol standard, hosted by AIA and being developed as a global standard as outlined by the cooperation agreement on global machine vision standardization between the AIA, European Machine Vision Association and the Japan Industrial Imaging Association.


Augustine to join Myriant board
Industrial bio-chemicals firm Myriant Corp. has elected Norman R. Augustine to its board of directors. The executive has a wide range of industry experience, most recently as chair and CEO of Lockheed Martin, the nation's largest aerospace/defense firm. He also is a former member of the boards of ConocoPhillips, Black & Decker, and Procter & Gamble.

 

H.B. Fuller launches adhesives-focused app
H.B. Fuller Co. has launched a mobile web app featuring the adhesives company's latest packaging adhesive innovations for the North American. The app is designed to enable packaging professionals to access information about the firm's products, glimpse mileage performance calculations and a watch a packaging overview video. Products highlighted include Advantra Encore case and carton adhesive, Liquamelt adhesive and equipment system, and Flextra Fast flexible packaging laminating adhesives. It also features information on turning corrugated shipping containers into retail-ready display trays through its Adalis Corp. subsidiary.
