Sonoco facilities attain landfill-free status
Sonoco's Birmingham, AL, Cascades Sonoco and York, PA Sonoco CorrFlex facilities each have achieved landfill-free status. To achieve the company's Sustainability Star Gold Tier landfill-free status, the facility must divert 99 percent of all waste from landfills. Working with the corporation's Sonoco Recycling division, the Alabama facility became landfill-free in June 2011 through a combination of recycling, the use of waste-to-energy alternatives and composting. The Pennsylvania plant reached the landmark in October 2011, thanks to a combination of waste-to-energy initiatives and a comprehensive recycling program.
Columbia Machine hires business development manager
Columbia Machine Inc. has appointed Pat O'Connor to its Palletizer team, in the position of Business Development Manager. O'Connor's responsibilities will include expanding the company's with major accounts, and helping to contribute to enhancement its palletizer product line. O'Connor is a 30-year palletizing industry veteran; prior to joining Columbia Machine, O'Connor held sales and product development positions with Matthews Conveyor, Automotion Inc., Meridian Corporation and most recently, 18 years as the Palletizer Product Manager at Alvey.
Design Group hits 25-year mark
Engineering consulting firm Barry-Wehmiller Design Group Inc.-with specialties including packaging process design-is celebrating its 25-year anniversary in 2011. In addition, the firm recently passed the 500-employee threshold. According to company representatives, the company has seen significant growth over the past two decades. Recent acquisitions include Delphey-Gerdes Engineering, purchased in 2010, and Cadence Technologies Inc.
Key Technology launches multi-lingual process training
Key Technology now offers its PROliance online training program in Dutch, French, German, and Spanish. By expanding the interactive, self-paced multimedia curriculum to meet the language requirements of a larger number of international users, the company aims to improve the effectiveness and consistency of its training program. First introduced in English in 2008, PROliance Online Training is designed to help food processors operate Key equipment at peak performance, optimizings product quality and maximizes equipment uptime while reducing training costs.
H.B. Fuller names Schuller vp of Asia Pacific Region
Adhesives manufacturer H.B. Fuller Co. has named Joan A. Schuller vp of its Asia Pacific business; her responsibilities will include overseeing growth in the market, and identifying and launching innovation projects in that area. Schuller had been with Dow Advanced Materials; . Prior to its acquisition by Dow, Joan spent 16 years at chemicals and adhesives firm Rohm and Haas Co., including five years leading businesses in Singapore and China.
