Eco-One biodegradable additives
Eco-One additives for enhancing biodegradation of PE and PP are now compliant for use in food-contact applications in Brazil per the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) Resolution RDC N.17 of March 17, 2008. Made of organic materials, the material is non-starch based and is compatible with a number of petroleum-based plastics, including PE, PP, PET, PS, nylon, ABS, PVC, EVOH and PC. Plastics with the additive are processed as before and have the same physical properties and tensile strength. Packages will perform as intended until disposed of in a biologically active landfill. Then the additive works to break down the plastic into inert humus, methane and carbon dioxide. According to the company, Eco-One has proven methane off-gassing, which allows it to be recaptured for energy.
