To meet both environmental and economic challenges for sustainable packaging, the co. says that it was the first to offer shrink labels made from Polylactic Acid (PLA). According to the co., brand managers, marketers, packagers and retailers select its bio-based shrink labels and T-E bands made from PLA as a natural choice to reinforce the "purity," "natural" and "close to nature" commitment and positioning of natural product and nutritional supplement brands. In addition to its compostability, the PLA labels and T-E bands are said to present an attractive lower-cost benefit, as the PLA resin-producing process requires 66-percent-less fossil fuel to produce than its petroleum-based counterpart. PLA shrink film also requires less heat and less dwell time (and therefore less energy) to shrink the label onto the package, says the co., which can increase line efficiencies and can save energy and resources.
