Sustainable packaging: 1-800-Recycling.com launches iPhone app, “My Recycle List”

1-800-Recycling.com has announced the launch of its iPhone App, “My Recycle List,” a user-friendly tool designed to help anyone anywhere participate in the recycling of items they would otherwise throw away.

The first fully comprehensive “all items, all zip codes” recycling App designed for the iPhone, 1-800-Recycling’s free App is now available at the Apple App store and enables the user to quickly find recycling locations nearby that accept items the user selects from a list. The App enables the user to easily organize locations by adding them to a personalized list – like an intuitive grocery list for recyclers.

Like 1-800-Recycling’s website and phone system, the My Recycle List App is designed to take the burden out of recycling by making it easy to accomplish recycling goals in the least amount of trips.

The My Recycle List launch follows hot on the heels of new technological enhancements to 1-800-Recycling’s overall system. In addition to the launch of the App, 1-800-Recycling’s phone system now enables the user to enter his or her zip code location and item desired to recycle, and a text message is instantly sent to that user’s phone with the name of the closest recycling center and a link to a Google Map showing how to get there from the user’s present location. The phone system has also been enhanced and includes a Spanish language option as well.

“Our new App is a perfect addition to the selection of tools we are providing through 1-800-Recycling.com to make the recycling process easier,” said John Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the nation’s leading recycler of electronics and e-waste, and parent company of 1-800-Recycling.com. “Now anyone anywhere can be a part of the recycling process – whether you are at home or at work, our site, our phone system and our App are all available, free of charge, to increase accessibility to the recycling process. It used to be a challenge to figure out how and where to recycle unwanted items – now, thanks to the variety of technologies we’ve developed, we are literally bringing simple recycling tools to everywhere life happens.”

1-800-Recycling.com provides users with nationwide outreach to help users find recycling locations nearest to them (every zip code in the country is covered) for whatever it is they wish to recycle.

The new App, the 1-800-Recycling.com website and the 1-800-Recycling phone service all direct users to responsible recyclers of electronics, tires, oil, paint, glass, plastic, wood, mattresses, carpet, junk – basically everything that can be recycled.
