Sustainable packaging insights and case studies -- online training
January 30, 2014
Consumer products manufacturers take note: Packaging sustainability saves money and is better for the environment, through material reduction among other design strategies. Retail packaging expert JoAnn Hines recently gave her 90min in-depth presentation on what designers, brand managers, and consumer product professionals need to know about sustainable packaging.
After discussing eight commonly accepted definitions by the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, JoAnn proclaimed the truth that there is no universal solution or concrete concept thereof. She identified 7 players and influencers, their varying perceptions of sustainable packaging, and further spoke on the following subjects:
1. No single Right solutions exist; problems can be resolved in multiple
ways.
2. The types of packaging, consumer frustrations, and the inside scoop on
biodegradable and compostable.
3. The Five Big Factors that hinder increasing adoption and
standards/definitions consensus.
4. Consumer vs. Manufacturer perceptions
5. Lesson #5, Six tactics, Six big truths, and Five sensible design
strategies
Her full 90min presentation including 30min of questions and answers, video, and slides PDF are available on-demand to participants of the Boot Camp Series, Season 2, an 8 session online course in sustainable business & design.
