Pigmented ink

Pigmented ink

V489-C pigmented ink is formulated to resist ink code transfer when printed onto light-colored extruded cables and wires. The ink, designed for use with a 1710 printer, also is suitable for coding onto metal food cans and flexible film pouches that are stacked during the retort cooking process, reportedly reducing the risk of product-to-product ink transfer that may sometimes occur with dye-based inks. V489-C black pigment ink is said to provide excellent transfer resistance and adhesion, improved uptime and high contrast codes to help optimize packaging operations.

Low-migration inks

Low-migration ink

The company's low-migration sheetfed process color inks are designed for indirect food contact in folding carton applications. The system is formulated without mineral oil, is cobalt-free and has minimal residual odor, according to the manufacturer. These inks comply with U.S. and European food packaging guidelines for outer printing. They also meet ISO 2846-1 standards and are suitable to GRACoL G7 certification. The company says the ink is low odor to avoid unwanted transfer to the packaging while also avoiding potential health hazards due to chemicals from the graphic process.

Plastic trays

Plastic trays

The company has released ultra-high barrier eco plastic trays. The trays have an oxygen transmission rate of less than 0.1 percent and have the potential to significantly increase shelf life and product freshness, according to the maker. The trays can be used for MAP applications where improved freshness and reduced carbon footprint are desired, the company states.

RFID substrate

RFID substrate

PointTrac TT, a new paper-based substrate for printed RFID labels, offers label manufacturers the ability to combine thermal-transfer- printed variable analog information with advanced RFID chip technology. This technology reportedly facilitates low-cost production of printed-paper RFID labels compared with traditional multi-layer plastic film substrates. RFID uses a wireless non-contact radio system for the transfer of data for automatic identification and tracking. The new substrate has special dual functionality built in so that printed barcodes on the label face can be read with a line-of-sight optical device or by using an out-of-sight electronic device.

Plastic drums

Plastic drums

The Ecostacker plastic drum range has been developed to overcome key ecological, transport, handling and pouring issues previously associated with large containers. The Safepour anti-glug system is said to counter the effects of glugging by equalizing the pressure inside and outside the container via an insert to give a consistent, fast and safe flow of product for both viscous and non-viscous liquids. Glugging during pouring (a problem common to conventional necked containers) can result in spillages, which can create potentially hazardous messes that require cleanup, which increases costs due to labor and lost production.

Biopolymer film

Biopolymer film

The manufacturer reports that its Sira-Flex Resolve film boasts extended shelf life of between two and five days for potatoes, fruits and vegetables. The film has been developed for balance between humidity control and O2 and CO2 permeability. The permeability is temperature dependant so that the ideal atmosphere is maintained inside the pack even if the storage temperature is variable, the company states. The film is a natural bio-polymer made from plants and is sustainable and fully compostable. The permeability is controlled by the property of the film itself.
