Turkey Hill Sugarbush Ltd. has been working with Montebello Packaging to introduce a new package-maple syrup in 100-ml tubes. With numerous industry awards to its credit, Waterloo, Quebec-based Turkey Hill is encouraging consumers to make maple syrup their No. 1 "squeeze" with the introduction of the maple syrup tube.

The convenience of maple syrup in a squeezable tube allows customers to take the product with them wherever they go. The package is lightweight and shatterproof, so it can easily be packed in a backpack for hiking and camping. Ideal as a souvenir item, the tube even meets airport sizing regulations. The flip-top closure is easy to open-the product flows out with no mess-and then it seals tightly to prevent product spillage.

The tube is manufactured by Montebello Packaging from 5 layers of clear EVOH material, which acts as an excellent oxygen barrier, but still allows customers to enjoy the rich coloring of the premium syrup. The tube is filled in an adjacent facility by Montfitello Inc., a division of Montebello Packaging.

Turkey Hill's maple syrup tube, which has a suggested retail price of $5.95, is now available in many Frontier duty-free shops across Canada, including the airport duty-free in Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax and Winnipeg.

The maple syrup tube is the first of its kind to hit the Canadian market. "In Europe, the tube is a well-known food container for a variety of condiments," says Turkey Hill CEO Brian Herman. "For maple syrup, the clear, unbreakable plastic tube is easy to use and easy to carry, be it in a purse to a restaurant or in a knapsack for traveling, hiking, biking or camping."
