Dow names Glenn Wright vp, Performance Packaging Global Business
The Dow Chemical Co. has appointed Glenn Wright to vp, Performance Packaging, an $8 billion global business unit in the company's newly-created Performance Plastics Div. Focused on technology-differentiated solutions, Performance Packaging largely addresses the flexible food packaging market. In his new role, Wright will drive increased market orientation and value chain focus around Dow's participation in the global packaging market. Prior to his last role as commercial vp for North American Plastics, Wright served as global business director for high-density and low-density polyethylene, North American supply chain director for plastics, and has held numerous positions in sales and marketing in the plastics business.

 

RockTenn's Rubright wins RISI's 2011 North American CEO of the Year award
RISI, the leading information provider for the global forest products industry, has named James Rubright, chairman/CEO of RockTenn, as the 2011 North American Forest Products CEO of the Year. The award will be presented to Rubright at RISI's 26th North American Forest Products Conference in San Diego, CA, on Oct. 3-5. The criteria for nomination included leadership, vision and strategic accomplishment. Rubright was selected as the winner due to his significant achievements and overall leadership of RockTenn. Specifically noted in his nomination was the recent acquisition of Smurfit-Stone by RockTenn.

 

Weatherchem celebrates 40th anniversary in packaging closures
Weatherchem—creator of the original Flapper cap dispensing closure—is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In the last four decades, the company has become a global enterprise with 100 employees and a range of innovative dispensing closures used in markets spanning from pet food to spices to household chemicals and candy.

 

International call for entries for the German Packaging Award
Since 1964, this prestigious award has been annually honoring the best-of-the-best in packaging. The German Packaging Award is an international performance-based competition covering all possible branches and materials. It is awarded by an independent jury in seven categories and looks for innovative and trendsetting packaging ideas. The competition is open to national and international participants from the packaging and consumer goods industry. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 1, 2011. Winners selected in PPC's paperboard packaging competition
In mid-July 2011, seven judges reviewed 117 entries and selected the winners of the Paperboard Packaging Council's 68th annual National Paperboard Packaging Competition. Awards will be presented at PPC's Fall Meeting & Leadership Conference, on the evening of Oct. 13, 2011, at Disney World, Orlando, FL. Delkor adds two vps
Delkor has expanded its senior management team. Mike Wilcox joins as vp of sales, marketing and aftermarket services. Wilcox brings more than 25 years of domestic and international sales and marketing experience in packaging, most recently with Bosch Packaging Technology, where he was responsible for sales and marketing activities for the Americas. And Fred Green has been hired as vp of operations. Green brings extensive senior management experience in manufacturing and engineering, most recently with Ault Inc., where he was president/CEO.

 

Domino North America welcomes new svp
Domino North America has appointed Fred Brunk as the new svp of sales and marketing to drive strategies necessary to attain the company's growth goals. Brunk will lead the management team responsible Domino North America's network of sales representatives, as well as the NA Marketing team, bringing more alignment of the company's sales and marketing activities. Brunk joins Domino from Siemens, where he held the position of vp for strategic accounts. He is a graduate of Cornell University's College of Engineering and holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

 

TricorBraun names director of sustainability and plastics
Jad Darsey has been named director of sustainability and plastics for TricorBraun, one of North America's largest suppliers of bottles, jars and other rigid packaging. In the newly created post, Darsey will evaluate new packaging technology and assist TricorBraun's customers with material choices and package designs that will enable them to improve their sustainability programs. Darsey joined TricorBraun in 2008 and has been responsible for developing strategic and emerging markets.

 

Reusable Packaging Association (RPA) announces 2012 executive committee
The Reusable Packaging Association (RPA) has selected its 2012 executive committee from experienced members of the reusable packaging industry, including three presidents of leading companies. The 2012 RPA executive committee will be led by chairman Mike Hachtman, president/CEO, reLogistics Services, LLC; Robert Engle, president NA, Schoeller Arca Systems Inc., will serve as RPA vice chairman; and John Frey, president of Tosca Ltd., will continue to serve as RPA secretary/treasurer. Drew Merrill, vp of business development and strategic planning, Container and Pooling Solutions Inc., will be RPA immediate past chairman (ex officio). Jerry Welcome will continue as RPA president/CEO (ex officio).
