Toray receives dairy interstate shipping certification
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition has granted Toray Plastics (America) Inc. Interstate Milk Shippers (IMS) certification for single-service products. The IMS certification signals to milk and dairy products manufacturers that Toray's packaging-manufacturing processes and packaging materials are recognized as safe for use with dairy applications that are shipped interstate. Toray is expanding in the dairy market with new packaging and lidding technologies, and customers interested in the new products are assured that Toray is compliant with FDA-mandated interstate shipping regulations.

 

AGI-Shorewood earns Pantone Certified Printer status
The Toronto site of global specialty-packaging manufacturer AGI-Shorewood is the first packaging solutions printing facility worldwide to earn Pantone Certified Printer status. Pantone LLC is the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries. It introduced the Pantone Certified Printer Program in 2011 to ensure participating offset printers meet the company's stringent color consistency and quality standards. The patent-pending program annually audits, inspects, analyzes and qualifies the operations from intake and ink mixing to print production and customer handling, helping ensure designers, brand managers and print buyers enjoy accurate print color reproduction, consistent and reliable results, greater confidence in choosing the right print provider, and timely and professional service.

 

DeltaTrak wins Best New Food Safety Solution award
DeltaTRAK—a leading innovator of cold chain, environment monitoring and food safety management solutions—has won United Fresh's 2012 Best New Food Safety Award for its announced its FlashCheck Real-Time Bacterial Enzyme Detection Kit. The kit is used for identifying bacteria in the field and provide an accurate, quick and inexpensive way to screen for dangerous levels of bacterial contamination. Having a low-cost screening tool allows users to test more often, thereby greatly increasing the success rate of catching bacterial contamination before it finds its way to the consumer.

 

Paperboard Packaging Council covers highlights from drupa 2012 at tecnical forum
On June 26-27, 2012, the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) will host its annual Technical and Production Forum at The Marriott in Springfield, MA, where industry experts will lead best practices discussions on a variety of key topics, such as employee attendance and shipping and freight handling, as well as hold a contest for who can present the best technological innovation or practice used at their plant. The forum will also feature presentations made by 15 exhibitors from drupa 2012, the world's largest print show held this year in Düsseldorf, Germany, in May. NACD names 2012 Hall of Fame Recipient
This year's inductee into the NACD 2012 Hall of Fame is Dave Spence, former president/CEO of Alpha Packaging Inc. Spence was honored during the NACD 2012 Annual Convention, which took place April 24-28 at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, FL.

 

Hammer invests in new packaging printing presses
Hammer is investing for growth in 2012 by adding two new presses to its line-up of packaging printing equipment. Hammer has purchased a third variable speed offset printing press (VSOP), due in mid-November 2012. The purchase of this additional press makes Hammer the largest user of VSOP sleeve technology in the world. The new VSOP will be equipped with the latest upgrades from Muller Martini. Hammer is also growing its flexo division with the purchase of a new narrow-web 10-color Nilpeter UV-Flexo press starting up in May 2012. This investment will allow Hammer to keep pace with the growth of its flexo operations, which has recently moved and expanded to a Rochester Tech Park location with an additional 60,000 sq ft of space.
