Brazil’s biggest paper producer and exporter, supplies board for the new boxes of Perdigão products with the trademark of the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), an international organization which attests to the proper management of forests and their production chain throughout the world. This FSC-certified board assures customers of an ecologically correct product, manufactured in compliance with the most demanding socioenvironmental criteria.

As well as a new identity, the boxes used by the food giant are produced with 100-percent sustainable practices, from forest management to paper making through to their printing
Klabin,

This initiative was born of a partnership between Klabin, Perdigão and the printers Box Print, Rigesa and Baumgarten. In order that the box can carry the FSC trademark, all the companies involved in its production process are required to be certified. This means that the matters of environmental, social and economic performance of each one of them undergo appraisals made by Imaflora – Institute of Forestry and Agricultural Management and Certification. Certification of Klabin’s forests and chain of custody guarantees traceability of the raw material used throughout the manufacturing process. The certificate is renewed every five years, with at least one inspection a year.

”The partnership with Perdigão and with the printers Box Print, Rigesa and Baumgarten reaffirms our commitment to sustainability,” points out Euvaldo Villaboim, account manager of the Board division. Boxes developed with Klabin’s cartonboard are an ecologically correct choice since, besides being certified by the FSC, they are 100-percent recyclable, biodegradable and have originated from planted forests, that is to say from renewable sources of raw material.

“When it uses cartonboard with the FSC trademark on its new packaging, Perdigão is underlining its concern with sustainability, an important competitive differential, adding value to the brand and perceived by every public,” adds Eric Boutaud, the company’s marketing director.

The product lines which will use certified boxes are gradually reaching the market with a new layout that will revitalize the image of products such as lasagnas, pizzas, quibes, meat balls, hamburgers and ready –to-serve dishes, among others. The new boxes also involve the sub-brands, each one of which will have a specific color ensuring its individual identity, such as the Chester® line, Especialidades, Escolha Saudável, NaBrasa, Ouro, Turma da Mônica, Perdigão, and others.

The boards used in the boxes are KlaFold FZ and KlaFold BF which have been specially treated to ensure resistance to water absorption. Low water absorption and high mechanical strength allow excellent containment and storage of frozen and chilled foods. Furthermore Klabin board offers optimum printability, since its composition includes the short fibers of eucalyptus.
