The global pandemic has changed much in our lives, and many people yearn for a return to pre-COVID-19 practices. While some new measures might be long-lived — wearing face masks inside during public events, for example — American business are gearing up for the economic recovery.

As part of this revival, demand for in-person events is on the rise, according to new research by Informa Markets – Engineering. IME is owner of Packaging Digest and of the PACK events you may be familiar with: WestPack, EastPack, MinnPack, PackEx Montréal, and PackEx Toronto.

A survey of almost 1,000 advanced manufacturing professionals, engineers, and executive management — across major sectors, including packaging, automation, medical, and plastics — reveals that 93% of respondents are likely to return to in-person events in the August through December 2021 timeframe.

Additionally, the results reveal that the advanced manufacturing community has a craving for making connections to help establish new business opportunities. According to the survey, 79% of respondents are comfortable with attending networking offerings at an in-person event, and more than half are comfortable with overnight accommodations with the mode of transportation via either driving or flying.

Safety remains top of mind.

At WestPack 2021 (and all other Informa events), safety and hygienic standards will be in place. These standards were developed by Informa in collaboration with event partners, peers/competitors, venues, suppliers, contractors, and health/government/local authorities.

The Informa AllSecure approach is designed to help visitors and exhibitors feel safe and confident in doing business at an Informa event. It entails 10 commitments, categorized into three main areas:

Cleaning & Hygiene:

1. Enhanced cleaning.
2. Personal hygiene.

Physical Distancing:

3. Non-contact registration.
4. Physical contact.
5. Physical distancing.
6. Food and beverage stations.

Protect & Detect:

7. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
8. First aid.
9. Screening.
10. Trace and contact.

August is still several months away. But it’s exciting to start planning to attend an awesome industry event — in person. Hope to see you there.
