Can ready-made meals get any more convenient? Apparently so.

LumiLid polyester lidding films from Toray Plastics (America) Inc. provide a peelable, removable top or lid to trays of ready-to-heat entrees and side dishes. However, consumers can conveniently heat foods in a microwave or conventional oven without having to first remove the lid on trays.

Additionally, to help brand owners reach their sustainability goals, a line of bio-based LumiLid films is made with the company’s proprietary resin blends that contain more than 50% renewable feedstocks.

All LumiLid films, including the bio-based version, withstand oven temperatures up to 400-deg F. for 30 minutes. The solvent-free materials are suitable for a variety of fresh, frozen and shelf-stable foods, such as meal replacements and side dishes.

Brand owners have the option of clear, white and metallized films.

Read a succinct Q&A article here where Vincent Sharps, senior director of new business development at Toray, explains the benefits of these new lidding films and talks about future trends.
