Confectionery rang up $36.7 billion in sales in 2020 and was the fifth-largest center store category.
While consumers' appetite for chocolate, candy, gum, and mints remains steady, packaging preferences shifted.

What a difference a year makes. Shortly after the National Confectioners Assn. released its 2020 State of Treating  report early last year, the world was turned upside down by the pandemic.

Which makes the recently released 2021 report a unique look at an unprecedented time. The 2021 State of Treating report is based on consumer studies by NCA and 210 Analytics conducted in September and December 2020 among 1,500+ qualified shoppers ages 18-75 in each study.

Packaging Digest reviewed the report and provided a kind of graphical executive summary of four packaging-related takeaways highlighted in the infographic.
