Italian Pasta Maker Switches from Restaurant to Retail Sales
A new packaging line for Surgital’s retail pasta packs incorporates a scale for measuring fragile products.
When the COVID pandemic shut down many restaurants, Italy-based Surgital pivoted to a retail sales strategy for its individual quick frozen (IQF) pasta. Previously, the Italian company had sold its pasta mainly to restaurants. To make the switch to retail, it needed different packaging equipment.
To solve the problem, Surgital worked with BW Simionato to engineer a packaging line that would provide gentle handling of the fragile IQF pasta while enabling sanitation and productivity. A scale designed specifically for fragile products played a key role in the solution.
