Post Holdings will acquire Perfection Pet Foods, a California-based private label pet food maker, and its two manufacturing plants, for $235 million.

This is another pet food company that will be folded into its large Lakeville, MN-based Post Consumer Brands unit. The company seems to be taking the pet food business seriously.

The acquisition adds to Post's growing stable of pet food options. Earlier this year, Post paid $1.2 billion for a portfolio of pet food brands from J.M. Smucker, including Kibbles 'n Bits, 9Lives, Rachel Ray's Nutrish and other brands.

Perfection Pet Foods is a leading manufacturer and packager of private-label and co-manufactured pet food and baked treat products. The acquisition includes two manufacturing facilities in Visalia, CA as well.

This will provide Post with additional manufacturing capacity to bring insource a portion of its current pet food business and an entry point into the private label and co-manufacturing pet food category.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year.
