Consulting service from Bosch optimizes packaging line efficiency
Bosch Packaging Technology opens its OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) Consulting Service for increasing overall efficiency by detecting process-disturbing factors, such as downtime, low machine output and product waste. "Every minute of production counts and it is therefore crucial for manufacturers to determine the exact causes of losses to maximize overall line efficiency," says Roland Pichler, manager OEE Consulting, Bosch Packaging Technology.

 

C-store introduces PepsiCo's Dream Machine recycling program to metro Minneapolis-St. Paul
PepsiCo has announced a partnership with Freedom Valu Centers convenience stores in Minnesota that will make the Dream Machine recycling program available at 19 Freedom Valu locations in metro Minneapolis-St. Paul. The launch positions Freedom Valu Centers among the first convenience store chains to launch the Dream Machine program in Minnesota.

 

Beauty and personal care experts wanted

Moxie Sozo creative director to author a book on package design

Rockport Publishers—a producer of advertising, branding and graphic design content—has tapped Leif Steiner, creative director of Moxie Sozo, to write a book about package design. Due to release in the fall of 2012, Steiner will cover all aspects of package design: history, trends, value and branding power. He'll also draw upon his nearly 20 years of relevant design and agency experience to detail the differences between working with large and small brands, and to provide necessary tools for packaging success.

 

CorrPak competition now accepting entries
TAPPI's Corrugated Packaging Div. is now accepting entries for the 2012 CorrPak competition, which will recognize the finest commercially produced corrugated package products manufactured between Aug. 1, 2010 and Aug. 1, 2012. Winning entries will be announced during the TAPPI/AICC 2012 SuperCorrExpo at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta from Oct. 1-4, 2012. The entry deadline is Aug. 17, 2012, and entry forms will be available soon at www.supercorrexpo.org.

 

Toray Plastics (America) Inc. opens solar farm on its Rhode Island campus
Toray Plastics (America) Inc. has completed construction of a $2 million, 445 kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic (PV) farm on its 70-acre campus in North Kingstown, RI. The new, three-acre solar farm is the largest in the state, consists of 1,650 PV panels and will generate 625 megawatt hours (MW h) a year, curbing escalating energy costs and reducing CO2 emissions by 340 tons per year.

 

Sonoco ranked top packaging company in Newsweek's 2011 Green Rankings
Sonoco, one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, has been rated the top packaging company and the top company in the Materials Sectors in Newsweek magazine's 2011 Green Rankings, which assess the United States' largest 500 public companies on their environmental footprint, environmental policies and reputation. Sonoco was also rated 202nd overall, placing the company in the Green Ranking's top 40 percent for the third consecutive year.

 

CTL Packaging USA brings 131 jobs to North Carolina
CTL Packaging USA-a global manufacturer of plastic packaging products for the cosmetics, personal care, food and pharmaceutical industries-has picked the new Gastonia Technology Park in NC for its North American operations, creating 131 jobs over the next four years. The 226,000-sq-ft facility will house production, research and development, distribution and corporate offices for the firm. The project represents a $58.5 million capital investment by CTL and is made possible through approximately $3.7 million in incentives from the county, city and state.

 

Tredegar Corp. acquires Terphane
Tredegar Corp.'s subsidiary, Tredegar Film Products Corp., has bought Terphane Holdings LLC, a leading manufacturer of specialty polyester films with operations in Brazil and the United States, for approximate $188 million. Terphane will be operated within Tredegar Film Products, and the current management team at Terphane will continue to run its operations.

 

New agency is dedicated to modern packaging design
Brand designer Robert Bergman, president of Bergman Associates, has launched a new venture, Mpakt, to cater to brand owners who wish to tap into modern design sensibilities. The company name merges the words "modern" with "packaging" to create a word pronounced "em-packed" or, more tellingly "impact." Mpakt, an offshoot of Bergman Associates, will share offices in Manhattan's Chelsea art gallery district.
