Experience and word-of-mouth are still the best ways to vet a new packaging supplier. But reviews on Glassdoor are a close second.

Thumbs up or down. Star ratings. Smile or Frown emojis. If you’re an online shopper, you know how helpful product ratings and reviews are from other customers. They are so helpful that stores are bringing ratings and reviews to shoppers at the physical shelf.
Don’t you wish there was a similar system to help you decide which packaging suppliers to buy from?
That got me thinking … while customer reviews of packaging suppliers might not be easy to find, there is another indication of the health, stability, and worthiness of a company: employee ratings. That we have! Thanks to online job posting platforms, anyone can access more data about companies than ever before.
Because so many packagers are looking to source paper packaging as the war on plastics continues, we decided to start our Packaging Supplier Scorecard series with the top paper packaging suppliers. But which companies to research? We got the list of Top 10 Paper Packaging Companies from BCC Research.
We then checked the reviews for each company on Glassdoor, from current and former employees. All stats were pulled on November 21, 2023. But, on each slide, we’ve provided a link to the Glassdoor Reviews page for that company so you can easily see how they are stacking up whenever you read this.
The Top 10 Paper Packaging Companies, per BCC Research and in alphabetical order, are:
1. Ahlstrom
2. DS Smith
3. International Paper Co.
4. Mondi Group PLC
5. Nippon Paper Industries Co
6. OJI Holdings Corp.
7. Seaman Paper Co.
8. Smurfit Kappa
9. Tetra Pak International S.A.
10. WestRock
Nine of these companies appear in our slideshow — in order of lowest to highest rank. One company, OJI Holdings Corp., didn’t have any reviews yet and is left out of the rankings. On each slide, we’ve identified the total number of reviews. Take this into account, as the number of reviews changes the statistical position within the rankings. We haven’t done that math; our order is based simply on overall average score out of five stars.
When there are ties, we’ve put the tied-companies in alphabetical order.
Just so you know … the ranking, per Glassdoor reviews, puts the companies in a different order! Interesting!
