NSF International receives both NSF Bottled Water Certification 
and SQF Certification
NSF International today announced that Premium Waters, Inc. is the first company to receive both NSF Bottled Water Certification and Level 3 Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification, says the company. With safety top of mind throughout the food and water industries, Premium Waters, Inc., a leader in the bottled water industry, has made it a priority as well. In addition to obtaining NSF Bottled Water Certification, Premium Waters also received the highest level of SQF certification – Level 3. Recognized under the Global Food Safety Initiative1 (GFSI)-benchmarked standards, SQF is designed to verify a supplier’s food safety and quality management system complies with international and domestic food safety regulations. NSF International is recognized by the SQF Institute as an approved certification body and accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to provide SQF certifications.

CPC Haferkamp invests in integrated PrintVision/Helios II 
and Microcolor NW solutions
The CPC Group is installing the new generation PrintVision/Helios II Automatic Inspection solution and Microcolor NW automated digital remote ink control solution on a new Nilpeter press, at its CPC Haferkamp facility in northern Germany, as part of an expansion of the company's labels operation. CPC Haferkamp has recently ordered a new Nilpeter MO 4 modular offset press for labels and packaging applications. In order to ensure high print quality, production cost reduction and complete quality assurance, the press will be equipped with Microcolor NW, GMI’s latest generation remote digital ink control solution; PrintVision/Helios II, AVT’s latest generation of 100% automatic inspection and quality assurance solution; and AVT’s WorkFlow Link solution, providing press-to-rewinder digital workflow support ensuring efficient removal of defective material. A. Schulman appoints Dennis Smith 
Director of New Business Applications
Schulman, Inc. announced that Dennis Smith has been appointed to the newly created position of Director of New Business Applications. In his new role, reporting to Paul Boulier, A. Schulman’s Chief Marketing Officer, Smith will continue to lead the development of A. Sonoco-Alcore to Increase European Paperboard Prices Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. announced it will raise prices by 40 Euro or £30 per metric ton on all recycled paperboard grades in Europe. The price change is effective with shipments on or after September 14, 2009. According to Eddie L. Smith, vice president—Sonoco Europe, the price increase is necessary to manage higher costs associated with recovered paper and energy, as well as significantly reduced inventories of coreboard across Europe. 



BWAY Corporation acquires Central Can Company BWAY Corporation, the principal operating subsidiary of BWAY Holding Company, has acquired all of the outstanding shares of Central Can Company, a U.S. producer of rigid general line metal and plastic containers. Central Can Company, located in Chicago, IL, operates one plant producing metal paint and specialty cans, steel pails, and hybrid and all plastic paint cans. Annual sales for Central Can Company are approximately $68 million. 





Envirotainer uses Apport and Memnon network applications
to optimize logistics processes
 



Envirotainer has entered a multiyear cooperation agreement with Memnon Network Applications to use the Apport platform as its container booking and transport management solution. The platform will initially be launched to a small group of customers in September 2009.

FTA announces 2010 Excellence in Flexography
awards competition call for entries

Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) is now accepting entries for its 2010 Excellence in Flexography Awards Competition. The entry submission deadline is January 8, 2010. Judging is set to take place in January 2010, with all winners announced at the Awards Banquet, held during the Foundation of FTA’s Annual Forum & INFO*FLEX Exhibition, May 2-5, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Judging is based on the degree of difficulty pertaining to: substrate printability/ink compatibility; registration tolerance; fineness of print and/or screen; tonal range; defect detectability; added difficulty; and the accuracy to fully assess the difficulty and execution of the entry. Additional elements judged are: image sharpness; ink coverage; registration; dot/screen/vignette quality; and consistency. The deadline to submit entries is Jan. 8, 2010. Entries must have been created between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2009. BASF to increase prices for Styrolux® and Styroclear® 
SBC copolymers in North America
BASF will increase prices of its Styrolux and Styroclear SBC resins by $0.07 per pound in North America, effective Sept. 1, 2009. This measure is due to continually increasing raw materials costs. Styrolux is BASF’s trademark for a portfolio of clear styrene-butadiene copolymers used in injection molding and extrusion thermoplastic applications that offer outstanding clarity, exceptional toughness and low density. Styrolux is used for medical applications, food service products, such as thermoformed clear drinking cups and plates, shrink labels, film wrap, toys and household appliances. Styroclear is a line of injection-molding resins for premium-quality, clear garment hangers.

Woeste has been named to the position of vice president, sales & marketing, for the company’s metal food & household products packaging division, Americas. Woeste, 50, has 29 years of sales experience in the metal food packaging industry, most recently as director, national accounts, for Ball’s metal food & household products packaging division, Americas. He joined Ball in 1993 through its acquisition of Heekin Can.
