Morrison Container president lands PACE award
Nick Wilson, president and owner of Morrison Container Handling Solutions (which makes timing screws and quick-change parts for various packaging line applications), is the 2011 recipient of the Professional Achievement Citation in Engineering (PACE) award from Iowa State University's Dept. of Chemical and Biological Engineering). The honor is designed to applaud alumni for technical and professional accomplishments in research, development, administration, education and other engineering activities. Wilson is the chairman of PMMI's Board of Directors and a member of PMMI's Education and Training Foundation Board.

 

Crown Holdings opens beverage can plant in China
Crown Holdings Inc. has opened a beverage can plant in Hangzhou, China. The facility supplies two-piece 33cl and 50cl aluminum cans, with an initial production capacity of more than 700 million cans. The new beverage can plant is Crown's fifth in China; construction is underway on three more, and plans for two others have been announced.

 

Clippard launches expanded 3D catalog
Clippard Instrument Laboratory has launched an expanded version of its 3D catalog, including its expansive line of electronic and control valve miniature pneumatic lines for packaging, material handling and other applications. Offered through digital engineering content firm TraceParts, the 3D catalog enables customers to include the products in system designs.

 

NJM/CLI is now NJM Packaging
NJM/CLI has changed its name to NJM Packaging. According to company executives, the goal of the move is to simplify the name and better reflect its focus on providing products and services to the packaging industry. The company—which designs, manufactures and supplies packaging equipment and offers turnkey line integration, validation support and after-sales service and support—also redesigned its logo and will launch a new website.

 

SGP marks three-year anniversary
The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership—an organization that provides sustainability certification for the graphic communications industry—is celebrating its third anniversary with the launch of a newly designed website (www.sgppartnership.org). The site outlines the group's history and key milestones, and showcases companies that support SGP's sustainability initiatives.

 

Sonoco opens paper core facility in Germany
Sonoco's Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. subsidiary has opened a paper tube and core manufacturing facility in Grünsfeld, Germany. The new plant will produce M-Core wide-ply paper mill cores, which are used primarily in the high-end segment of the paper industry and are designed to deliver increased dynamic strength and e-modulus, to meet the requirements of new printing machines.

 

Fabri-Form names new president
Fabri-Form—a company that provides reusable packaging, OEM plastic components and material handling products and services—has promoted Rob Zachrich (previously vp of sales and marketing) to the position of president. The executive will be charged with managing the day-to-day operations, including business strategies and customer development. Former president John Knight will transition to chairman and CEO.
