Clif Family Winery Climber Pouch

Committed to supporting an active, outdoor lifestyle while treading lightly on the planet, Clif Family Winery introduces the Climber Pouch, a new wine package that's portable and unbreakable. The ultra-light, go-anywhere design is shatterproof and flexible, making it a natural choice for toting to favorite locations, from the mountains to the beach. One Climber Pouch holds the equivalent of two 750 ml bottles and its resealable, one-way plastic spout keeps opened wine fresh for up to a month in the fridge.

"A day spent out on the hiking or bike trail that ends with friends, food and wine is our idea of a perfect day. The portability and flexibility of the Climber Pouch lets outdoor enthusiasts of all types wind down their adventures with the pleasure of great wine."

Clif Family Winery winemakers Sarah Gott and Bruce Regalia make the Climber Pouch wines. The line includes an unoaked Chardonnay sourced from Northern California's cooler Delta region and a Cabernet Sauvignon from top vineyards along California's Central Coast.

"The Climber Pouch is affectionately known as the ‘all-terrain wine transport' around here," said Clif Family Winery owner Gary Erickson. "A day spent out on the hiking or bike trail that ends with friends, food and wine is our idea of a perfect day. The portability and flexibility of the Climber Pouch lets outdoor enthusiasts of all types wind down their adventures with the pleasure of great wine."

Clif Family Winery Climber Pouch wines are available in California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Texas, North Carolina, Florida, New York, Vermont, Ohio, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. They may also be purchased online at www.cliffamilywinery.com. Suggested retail price for a 1.5L pouch is $16.99. For more information about the Climber Pouch visit www.climberpouch.com.

In addition to offering food-friendly and delicious wines, the Climber Pouch answers consumer demand for more options (particularly environmentally-friendly ones) in wine packaging. The popularity of alternative packaging for wine continues to rise, with 3L premium box wines and Tetra Pak wines enjoying double digit growth over a twelve-month period. Technically known as the "Astrapouch," the Climber Pouch package has a considerably lower carbon footprint and generates less landfill waste than other options currently on the market.

Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford are owners of Clif Family Winery & Farm based in St. Helena, CA and Clif Bar & Company based in Emeryville, CA. Both companies are named for Gary's father, Clifford, who spent many years hiking and skiing in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains with his son. Gary and Kit's love of food and wine began with cycling trips through Europe. A day of cycling would inevitably end with a long meal and a great bottle of wine. The purchase of their property in Napa County in 1998 fueled their passion for wine and food, and its connection back to the land.
