Sour Foam Candy
In Australia, All-Fect Distributors has released Sour Foam Candy under its Cosmic brand umbrella. The product, aimed at children, is a good example of a textured foaming food/drink product (such as the recently launched "foamy blast" Turbo Tango soft drink, housed in an aerosol-powered bottle).Foaming candy has been seen on the market before. However, the packaging on those products has focused on plastic. This new Cosmic Sour Foam Candy comes in an aluminum aerosol can, with an injection-molded foaming dispenser. The package is topped with a push-on injection molded overcap, both parts polypropylene, and finished with a full outer shrink-sleeve label, gravure printed, to provide tamper evidence.
The product is set to add more value to the novelty confectionery market, which has performed well in the U.S. and other countries. According to the Mintel report Non-Chocolate Confectionery-US-October 2010, sales of novelty candy have been solid over the past few years, increasing 14.4 percent from 2005 to 2010. The segment owes its success to consumer interest in the unusual. The category is all about uniqueness and thus draws more impulse purchases than other segments.
