For those who are Irish year-round or for a day, March 17th is a much-anticipated occasion, with numerous ways to celebrate all things Irish, whether through food or drink.
Brands and suppliers toast the occasion as well, dressing up packaging in a special way. By and large that means leveraging green in all its various hues. Here’s a quick-hitting compilation o’ St. Patrick’s themed packaging design.
At a nearby Binney’s Beverage Depot, the run-up to the holiday turned the front-of-store display to an Irish fest of packaged drinks and gift packs (seen in the feature image above) highlighted by an Irish cup of coffee courtesy of Bailey’s. A personal favorite was a Bailey’s gift pack with two reusable ceramic bowls imprinted with Yours and Mine, respectively.
Binney’s store and thousands of other liquor stores across the country should expect an uptick in sales as 2022 is shaping up to be a relatively banner year for liquid refreshments this holiday. In-store alcohol sales around St. Patrick's Day will likely be 5-15% higher than 2019, with beer leading the way, according to Catalina.
That’s our cue to get the packaging party started with a couple of beers with themed labels.
This brand is milking additional sales for the occasion.
Bright green beer is a traditional favorite especially when canned in a color-matched label design.
A Northwoods style brew suits the occasion.
On March 7, Jameson Irish Whiskey debuted its first-ever US ready-to-drink offering, Jameson Ginger & Lime. A premium, carbonated cocktail in a can made with smooth triple-distilled Irish Whiskey, the RTD cocktail arrives with the news that Jameson declared St. Patrick's Day a two-day holiday in 2022. Cheers to more holidays this year!
Irish coffee is a standard beverage anytime but perfect for St. Patrick's. Veteran-owned and firefighter-run Fire Dept. Coffee has a satisfying option for anyone desiring a non-alcoholic alternative while still enjoying the festivities in true Irish style, Irish Whiskey Infused Coffee grounds.
"We look forward to St. Patrick's Day every year," Fire Dept. Coffee founder Luke Schneider says. "For anyone who loves the taste of Irish coffee, this recipe lets you enjoy it all day long. Once people try it, they're going to enjoy it all year long."
We’ll work in a canine reference with this “greener” packaging restructuring thats rooted in Ireland.
On a related note, the perfect bottle opener design.
We'll finish our tribute with a quick how-to tutorial to turning a river green, which is a St. Patrick’s Day tradition in the Windy City. It's quite a transformation, believe me.
