Color is a formidable component in the packaging design tool kit, drawing the eye and evoking emotion. Packaging colors are also brand builders: Consumers associate familiar packaging colors with certain brands, and often shop by looking for the specific color.

Legacy brands in categories such as food and beverage, toys, and jewelry know the power of color in packaging and have leveraged it for decades. They’re protective of their colors, as well. Some have gone so far as to file a lawsuit to protect their rights to a packaging color.
