With its 10.4-in. color, icon-based touchscreen and single-button controls for jet startup/shutdown, the new I-Mark™ C84 continuous ink-jet (CIJ) printer is designed to make it simple to operate and create and change messages. The U.S.-manufactured printer has a self-cleaning printhead that can image bar codes, logos or up to four lines of text, including expiration dates and batch codes, on a range of product shapes and surfaces. The C84 prints characters from .05- to 6- in.-high at a maximum speed of 1,235 ft/min and it can be used with fast-dry, non-MEK and pigmented inks to allow printing on nonporous as well as porous substrates. The co. also claims the C84 needs less maintenance than other CIJ printers. According to the co., the C84 requires regular maintenance after 2,500 hr of operation while similar CIJ printers need maintenance after 1,500 hr. At PACK EXPO, the C84 will print on metallized film. Other new devices exhibited will be the e-SolarMark FL fiberoptic laser printer, the IP-7000 high-resolution ink-jet marking system and the I-Mark SX-16, drop-on-demand (DOD) ink-jet system.
