Presspart’s low cost disposable dose indicator system on display at Pharmapack
December 3, 2015
Presspart, manufacturer of deep draw MDI canisters and injection molded plastic actuators, will be revealing its Quantum Dose Indication System for MDI’s at Pharmapack North America in New York on June 9-10. It will be the product’s debut for the North American market, and Presspart will be located at booth 4019.
Quantum is built in to the MDI canister by Presspart, according to Chad Mayoh, marketing manager, and it is compatible with current filling and packaging lines. The system also features no mechanical parts, ensuring the patient has a failsafe, robust, and reliable end of life calibration system.
"Quantum has been developed to be a low cost, disposable dose indicator solutions, ensuring pateitns dont' run out of their medication when they need it most," Mayoh tells PMP News.

He notes that, as well as new products for Presspart, Pharmapack will also give the North American market a chance to learn more about its Inhalation Product Technology Center (IPTC), which was launched in 2013.
“IPTC will deliver the capabilities to support new product developments and strategic initiatives with Presspart’s customers,” Mayoh says. “Presspart has an in-depth technical understanding of the products they manufacture and assembly and IPTC will enhance those capabilities and deliver a customer focused device development and drug related performance understanding.”
Key capabilities of the IPTC include inhalation device design, concept, and development; device customization and enhancements to meet formulation requirements; device performance/interaction studies with the drug product; device meteorology and specification development; component/device evaluation, screening, and optimization; inhalation product testing support, and multi-region regulatory support.
Mayoh says Presspart has seen a lot of demand for its plasma treatment process for the internal surfaces of MDI cans.
“Presspart’s plasma treatment improves the surface energy performance of an MDI canister, thus helping to prevent the active content of a drug formulation sticking to the canister wall,” he says. “This ensures that the patient receives the prescribed dose and solves an inherent problem present within many of today’s metered dose inhalers.”
In addition to seeing interest in plasma, Presspart continues getting attention in its dispensing actuators, which Mayoh notes are suitable for both aerosol valves and mechanical pumps, and can be used for optic, oral, and topical applications.
