Robotics has long been considered a technology of the future, but that future is increasingly now as robots now routinely handle many laborious tasks in industrial workplaces. Robots also now serve as self-learning vacuum cleaners and in some countries, have become order takers at fast-food restaurants.

To meet the growing need for skilled robotics engineers, some of nation’s leading STEM schools have beefed up their course offerings in robotics. The course curriculums cover both the hardware and software aspects of designing and implementing robotics systems, and while the number of students specializing in this area are small compared to larger engineering disciplines such as mechanical or electrical engineering, their numbers could increase as demand grows.
