Look Here for Sustainable Packaging Design Ideas

Such activity! I had to wait until the end of the show day to take photos and video of the new Sustainability Lounge that debuted at WestPack 2024 at the beginning of February this year. Even then, folks were still coming by to read, touch, and be inspired.

The busy interactive exhibit showcased dozens of packaging materials identified sustainable by exhibit partner and sustainable-packaging design firm Guacamole Airplane. Check out the company’s sustainable packaging supplier guide, which highlights innovative, new sustainable packaging materials. Like bagasse, cassava, seaweed, crustacean shells, mushrooms, hemp, corn starch, bamboo, algae, wheat straw, and clothing waste. There’s even paper made from up to 15% waste sourced from fruit, nuts, and herbs.

That’s me kicking up my feet at the end of the video. The chair made from corrugated paperboard was remarkably comfy! And was flexible enough to let me gently rock.

We saved the materials from this exhibit for use at another Informa event in the future. Informa is the parent company of Packaging Digest and puts on several packaging-related events throughout the year. WestPack is just one of them. We also produce SouthPack, PackEx Montreal, EastPack, and MinnPack.

WestPack 2024 was held in Anaheim, CA, February 6-8, together with MD&M West, ATX West, D&M West, and Plastec West. The five expos together comprise Informa Markets Engineering (IME) West.
