Light-weighted rum bottle boasts two firsts
A cork-mouthed bottle that’s 20% lighter than standard also offers embossed neck decoration.

There’s more to the lightweight packaging of Sailor Jerry premium spiced rum than meets the eyes: It’s the first cork-mouthed bottle using the vendor’s NNPB process and the first with neck embossing in the category.

Glass bottle manufacturer Ardagh Group achieved two firsts for the bottle of Sailor Jerry, a premium spiced rum from William Grant & Sons:

• For the first time, Ardagh was able to produce at its Scottish plant in Irvine a cork-mouthed bottle using its weight-saving “narrow neck press and blow” (NNPB) glass manufacturing process. The vendor explains that’s a relatively straightforward to produce using the “blow blow” process, but was as untested and far more challenging for an NNPB process.

• It’s the first time neck embossing has been applied by Ardagh for the UK spirits sector that underscores the brand equity of the custom bottle.

This combination results in a bottle that’s 20% lighter.

The bottle hearkens back to an earlier time when goods were made by hand and craftsmen took great pride in their work, according to Sailor Jerry global brand director Julie Doyle. “The new packaging has been introduced to align the brand’s look and old school feel with the premium, authentic nature of the spirit.”

More details about the rum, which offers the motto “bold and smooth as hell,” can be found at the Sailor Jerry website where you’ll be greeted there by the claim “We may not always act like it, but we're adults around here.”
